The Festival of Trees is back at Fort Fisher
FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) — The Festival of Trees is back. Volunteers came from all over the area to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher Thursday with one purpose in mind, to decorate some Christmas trees.
Dozens of trees lit up the aquarium at Fort Fisher as volunteers began to decorate.
For the second year Lower Cape Fear Hospice is setting up decorated Christmas trees at the aquarium as part of their Festival of Lights.
All proceeds help raise money for patient care services.
Each tree is sponsored by a different individual or group such as St. Mary’s school and Cruiser’s car wash.
One tree, decorated by Wrightsville Beach Elementary School fifth graders along with UNCW’s Plastic Oceans Project, was all about recycling and protecting marine life.
“We brought in some of the stuff we collected on beach sweeps and told them to make whatever you want,” Danielle Gutierrez, a member of the education team for the UNCW Plastic Ocean’s Project, said. “The students made all our ornaments.”
If you’d like to see all the trees decorated and lit up, come by the aquarium Sunday for the start of the Festival of Trees.
