‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ asks fans not to visit filming locations

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Producers behind the hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty are asking fans not to visit filming locations or share set details online as production continues on the franchise’s upcoming feature film.
In a statement shared on social media, the show’s official account said increased fan activity around filming locations has disrupted production and created safety concerns for cast and crew members.
“We love the excitement, but sharing locations and visiting set disrupts filming and creates real safety concerns for our cast and crew,” the post said. “We’re working hard to create a protected bubble to make the best movie possible. Please help us protect the magic of Cousins until it’s ready to be shared.”
The request comes as interest in the series continues to grow, particularly in the Wilmington area, where the show filmed multiple seasons.
The Summer I Turned Pretty has filmed extensively throughout southeastern North Carolina, including scenes in Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach and Southport. Local businesses featured in the series previously reported increases in visitors after episodes aired, a tourism trend often referred to as “set-jetting.”
Last year, Amazon Prime Video announced the series would conclude with a feature film written and directed by creator Jenny Han. The announcement was made during the show’s finale red carpet event in Paris.
According to Amazon, the third season drew 25 million viewers globally during its first seven days of release.
The series, based on Han’s bestselling books, follows a coming-of-age story centered around the fictional Cousins Beach. Several local landmarks have appeared throughout the show’s run, including restaurants, coffee shops and beach locations across the Cape Fear region.
