Thieves stealing clothes

Usually, when homes get broken into, electronics and other valuables are the first things stolen, but there have been a couple of incidents in the past two days where the thieves had a different target.

One person WWAY spoke with left his house to go to work in the morning. He came home to find an empty closet where all of his work clothes used to be.

Jamie Sischo’s apartment was broken into yesterday.

He discovered that his DVD player and computer had been stolen, and was shocked to also find that all of his clothes were missing from his closet.

It would seem that with the economy trending downward, some thieves might be going to the extreme.

Plato’s Closet is a consignment shop in Wilmington. They require all customers provide them with a valid driver’s license to make sure the clothes they bring in weren’t stolen merchandise.

Jhery Evans of Plato’s Closet said, “There are going to be people out there who see it as a quick way to make money. They may try and find cheating methods by taking friends stuff, or there have been a couple instances where we have had people we are fairly certain were stealing from actual stores, and then bringing their stuff in here.”

Employees at Plato’s Closet say some obvious signs of suspicious transactions are when people bring in clothes that still have a security tag on it.

Plato’s Closet started asking each consigner for valid identification about two weeks ago just to make sure every customer is treated fairly, and to make sure their merchandise comes from the right place.
