Though potential is low, McIntyre says government working together to prepare for oil
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Experts predict a very small chance the Gulf of Mexico oil spill will make it to the Carolina coast. If it does, we want to be ready.
Rep. Mike McIntyre says he is working with national, state and local officials to make sure our area is ready to take on the oil slick. He says much like a hurricane, we need to be prepared.
“We want to work with the Coast Guard. We want to work with state and local agencies. I know there have been some efforts already here in North Carolina on the state level,” McIntyre said. “I think our main concern is making sure from the federal level we have resources in place to augment, support and strengthen the efforts going on at local and state level.”
Local emergency management leaders have had several conference calls to discuss what actions to take if oil winds up on our shores.
