Titan America hosts information workshop

Residents concerned about Titan America’s plan to bring a cement plant to New Hanover County got some of their questions answered Tuesday night.

Back in April, Titan America, a cement company based in Virginia, announced plans to build a new plant in Castle Hayne. But grassroots organizations are concerned about the environmental impact the plant could have on the 600 acres of wetlands it would sit on.
New Hanover County commissioners have offered the company more than four-million dollars in tax incentives to build here.

Commissioners believe the plant will bring high paying jobs to the area. Titan continues to move forward with obtaining the necessary permits to make the cement plant a reality. Titan officials say they want the public involved in the planning process.

Tuesday, company representatives covered a broad range of issues like the economic impact, employment opportunities and environmental impact the plant will have on the community.
