Tomato recall due to salmonella outbreak
Certain types of tomatoes are believed to have caused 145 salmonella cases across the country since April.
No reported illnesses from tomatoes in North Carolina, but local restaurants and grocery stores are still taking precautions.
Subway and McDonald’s are among the chains following an FDA recommendation to pull the tomatoes until the source of the salmonella is known.
Lowe’s Food Stores have also taken some tomatoes off the shelves.
The FDA recommends not eating raw red Roma, red plum, and red round tomatoes for the moment.
The FDA says cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes and tomatoes with the vine attached are not affected.
