Top women golfers tee off at Landfall Tradition

Some of the top college golfers teed off in the Port City Friday morning. It was the first round of the Eighth Annual Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall.

For the first time, the tournament features only a women’s field. That was to give teams a chance to play Landfall’s Dye Course, which will host the NCAA women’s championship in the spring.

UNCW athletics director Kelly Mehrtens said, “We’re so excited to host the NCAA women’s golf championship this spring. It’s an opportunity for us to showcase Wilmington. Wilmington is definitely a destination spot, and it’s a great place with southern hospitality and just so many things to offer student athletes, and we’re so honored and fortunate to be able to host it, and we’re looking forward to it.”

If you want to check out the action at the Landfall Tradition, it continues through Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall. Admission is free.
