Topsail Beach Police Chief tells WWAY, “I don’t do 24/7.”

NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — When news happens after 5:00 p.m. in Topsail Beach, don’t expect to hear about it until hours later.

That’s because according to Police Chief Samuel Gervase, he only confirms information while he’s on the clock.

“I don’t do 24/7 and I don’t allow my other officers to answer media questions,” he told WWAY this morning. “You’ll just have to wait until I issue a press release.”

When asked what we could do to keep this situation from happening again, he told us to call during business hours.

We then asked if he didn’t think the job of police chief, which he chooses to do, wasn’t one that needed 24/7 availability, he hung up on us.
