Topsail Beach residents concerned about speed limit
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Some Topsail Beach residents are concerned about the speed limit across the four mile stretch of North Anderson Boulevard near Surf City.
Several community members are continuing a campaign to get town leaders to change the speed limit from 45 mph to 35 mph. Residents are worried about pedestrian safety with fast moving traffic in the area, especially during tourism season.
However, this change was considered and dismissed last summer. Commissioner Linda Stipe voted against the change, saying that with heavy traffic , drivers cannot physically go 45 mph even if they want to.
But still, residents are worried that the speed limit will put beach goers at risk.
