Topsail Beach permitted to renourish

The process has been five years in the making; now it finally looks like Topsail Beach will get some new sand.

Permits were issued this week, to allow Topsail Beach to renourish a five-mile stretch of beach.

There are still a few steps to go before the sand will start piling up, like securing financing, and finding a firm to do the dredging.

Topsail Beach is working to share costs with Bald Head Island, which is also planning renourishment.

Town Manager Steve Foster said a public hearing will take place July 7th. If all goes as planned, renourishment should start in February or March.
