Tournament goers hit the night scene in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Maybe business will really start to boom as more people come out for the Wells Fargo championship this weekend.

People are excited for the Wells Fargo Championship and couldn’t stop talking about it when they got off the shuttle.

Many of those people are going downtown tonight and every night to celebrate after the tournament.

Just some of the people were from Raleigh, Charlotte and even as far as Virginia.

Many said they plan to go out to the bars and drink downtown. Some even say they are going with new friends they met at the championship.

A few people said the championship was their pre-game.

And in the end, whether they are from the area or just vising for the first time, they say they are expecting a fun time in downtown Wilmington.

“We’re from Charlotte, we’re just down here for the two nights and looking to go downtown. Hit up a couple places like city limits. I heard it’s a good time and I’m just going to have a good time,” Michael Katzman, from Raleigh, said.

“When the championship comes down I guess it gets a lot more people together and I guess it gets everybody going out,” William Games, from Wilmington, said.

Downtown looks like a hot-spot for after tournament action and with the weekend coming up, the streets could overflow with PGA tour fans.

The Wells Fargo championship is a new kind of beast for downtown Wilmington.

Only time will tell if businesses will score a hole in one.
