Town of Leland announces cooking competition, ‘Battle of the Bowls’
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Leland will host its fourth annual Battle of the Bowls on Sept. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Founders Park, bringing together local public safety agencies and the community for an evening of food, live music, games and giving.
The Leland Fire Department, Leland Police Department and Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office will compete for the Battle of the Bowls championship while serving homemade chili samples to attendees, while supplies last.
Community members can vote for their favorite chili by donating canned goods or purchasing a $1 voting ticket. All donations will benefit Manna Ministries, which provides assistance to local families and individuals in need.
Last year’s event collected more than 200 canned-goods donations and raised more than $500 for Manna Ministries.
“This is the fourth year of Battle of the Bowls, and we’re excited to make this year’s event bigger and better,” said Mayor Brenda Bozeman. “I’m looking forward to another great evening where residents can come together, enjoy some friendly competition, and support local families.”
The event will feature live music, yard games, face painting, a beer garden and four food trucks.
North Brunswick High School Marching Band will perform from 5:45 to 6 p.m., followed by Michael Schott, who will perform country music hits and original songs from 6 to 8 p.m.
Food trucks will include Fitz’s Biscuits, Glizzies on the Go, Island Squeeze Lemonade and East Coast Nuts.
Leland Brewing Company and Brunswick Beer and Cider will be available in the beer garden for patrons 21 and older. Outside alcohol is prohibited.
Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair for the concert.
Founders Park is located at 113 Town Hall Drive. Parking will be available at the park, with overflow parking at First Baptist Church at 517 Village Road.
