Town of Southport holds First “Day of Service”
SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WWAY) — The city of Southport looks a bit nicer today, after many residents got together to give a nice buff and shine to the city.
Just a few simple steps to help beautify Southport.
It’s all part of Southport’s “Day of Service”, to help spruce up the town.
Many see this as a great time for everyone to get together and work towards making Southport beautiful.
“I just like to see people getting together and doing something productive and feeling like they’re making a difference and i just like anything social. I like to get together with the group of people,” Shirley Snyder, chair of Southport Beautification committee, said.
People of all ages plucked weeds and planted fresh azalea’s at different parts of town.
Volunteers see the day of service as a day of enlightenment.
“Anytime you can get out and do something as a volunteer, its so rewarding. To know that, its more than just a job, its more than just some labor to be done. This is our town and we love it and we want to help out as much as we can,” said Casey Townsend, a volunteer.
This is the first official day of service in Southport. But community members get together multiple times a month in order to help with the beautification process around town and encourage others to come out and lend a helping hand.
