Toyota of Wilmington starts fixing recalled pedals

Drivers pulled up to Wilmington’s only Toyota dealership today… among the first to get the recall repairs.

General Manager John Futrell says his shop’s focus is on getting it fixed – and getting it fixed fast. “Our goal is to have the customer from the time they pull in to the time they pull out, less than an hour. and we’re having no difficulty with that right now.”

The process is pretty simple. Owners pull into the service bay and attendants take a quick glance at the gas pedal to see if it falls under the recall. If it doesn’t…drivers hop back into their cars and drive away. If it does… the car is taken to the shop to be serviced.

Mechanics are installing a reinforcement bar that makes the pedal return to the idle position.

The dealership expected to work on 96 cars today.
