Training for a terrorist attack in our area

Our area is home to a nuclear plant, and a major port. That makes it a potential target for terrorists, and that is why the Coast Guard has a plan, just in case.

Emergency service agencies from our area joined forces today for a terrorist training exercise.

Crews spent the day practicing maneuvers and communication strategies in and out of the water.

Col. Mike Babul, United States Army, said, “We plan for the expected, but we train for the unexpected. We don’t know the extent of any unforeseen terrorist event might be, but training is an essential part of our preparation for that.”

The exercise was specifically designed to prepare emergency agencies in a Port City for any possible security threat.

Emergency management officials from Brunswick and New Hanover Counties also participated in this morning’s training.
