Travel chaos in Europe not impacting ILM

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today’s global travel nightmare does not appear to be affecting many travelers out of Wilmington International Airport.

A large volcanic eruption in Iceland shut down European airspace and created a domino effect to airports around the globe. Flights in and out of Wilmington, though, have not reported any significant delays.

“We’re lucky,” ILM Operations Director Gary Broughton said. “It has not had any impact on the traffic in and out of Wilmington at this point. Now I have checked with the airlines, and the only one that has shown any impact has been US Airways, and that’s if you’re flying from either Charlotte or Philadelphia into London.”

Broughton recommended anyone planning to travel overseas in the near future check with their airline well ahead of time to ensure their flight will go on as scheduled.
