Trial date set for murder suspect in Onslow County double stabbing

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WCTI) — A trial date has been set for an Onslow County woman charged with murder after two men were found stabbed to death in North Topsail Beach.

District Attorney Ernie Lee said Bekka Shellhammer’s trial will begin on May 11. Shellhammer, of Sneads Ferry, is charged with murder in the stabbing death of 31-year-old Christopher Stewart.

Stewart and Bekka Shellhammer’s husband — 31-year-old Robert Clinton Shellhammer IV — were found dead on July 25, 2013 in North Topsail Beach, between Ocean Drive and the Village of Stump Sound, according to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office. Both men suffered several stab wounds and one knife was found at the scene, deputies said.
