Troopers identify couple killed in Brunswick Co. crash

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Troopers have released more information in the deadly double fatal crash near the Sunny Point Military Terminal entrance.

Trooper M.D. Gore with the Highway Patrol said Paul Setnicky and his wife, Anna, died in the crash yesterday morning on NC 87. Paul, 88, and Anna, 92, were traveling in their minivan when it went off the highway, flipped at least once and hit a tree, Gore said.

Gore said they are still awaiting results of a toxicology report to help determine the cause of the crash. He said there’s no apparent reason to have caused the crash, like an animal or other vehicle, and the medical examiner said Paul Setnicky didn’t have an episode to cause the incident. Trooper Gore said there was no evidence the driver attempted to stop the vehicle before the crash.
