Tutoring program holds Lion King kids musical

WILMINGTON, N.C (WWAY) — Some kids at Winter Park Elementary School worked hard to pull off a Lion King performance!

Fourth and fifth graders from the school have worked on the Lion King musical since January.

The kids are part of an after school tutoring program. It focuses on academics through tutoring and learning about the world of drama, set and costume design, and marketing.

“We would learn for about 15 to 45 minutes and then we would come to our stations. And if you were in the marketing, then you’d go to Ms. Williams room. Art, you would go to the art room. And if you were in the play, then you would come to this room in the auditorium,” Lilli Friesland, a fifth grader, said.

Amber Williams, a fifth grade teacher, said about 60 students are involved in the entire production.
