Two arrested on drug trafficking charges following traffic stop in Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Two people are facing multiple felony drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop in Leland led to the seizure of fentanyl pills, cocaine, and a firearm, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said members of the Brunswick County Vice and Narcotics Unit and Special Operations Unit conducted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 74 following a brief investigation.
During the stop, investigators said the driver, identified as Ty’Reek Oliver, attempted to flee while deputies were still inside the vehicle. Deputies were able to quickly gain control of the situation and take Oliver into custody without further incident.
According to the sheriff’s office, a probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a firearm, approximately 500 pressed fentanyl pills weighing 65.5 grams, and 28.7 grams of cocaine. Authorities said the amount of fentanyl exceeded North Carolina’s Level III trafficking threshold, while the cocaine met the state’s trafficking threshold.
Oliver was charged with three counts of Level III trafficking in fentanyl, three counts of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver fentanyl, conspiracy to traffic fentanyl, conspiracy to traffic cocaine, assault on a government official, resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer, and felony carrying a concealed firearm.
A passenger, identified as Kirsty Miller, was also arrested. She is charged with three counts of Level III trafficking in fentanyl, three counts of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver fentanyl, conspiracy to traffic fentanyl, conspiracy to traffic cocaine, and felony maintaining a vehicle for keeping or selling controlled substances.
In a statement, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said removing fentanyl from the community has the potential to save lives and pledged to continue targeting individuals involved in narcotics trafficking throughout Brunswick County.
