Two businesses involved in Brunswick Co. sweepstakes bust

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said they seized several illegal video slot machines at two businesses.

Deputies said the raids happened in late August at the Cell Phone and Tablet Repair in the 2100-block of Holden Beach Road and the Quick and Easy Citgo in the 2600-block of Holden Beach Road. They said four machines, along with more than $3,000 in cash were taken from the first business; Charles Edward Ard, Jr., 41, and Tiffany Teal Ard, 33, were cited, deputies said. Two machines and more than $2,700 in cash were seized from the second business; Vernon GIlbert Majors, 76, was cited at that store, deputies said.

A BCSO spokeswoman said the bust happened after a two-three month joint investigation with the ALE. More charges may be pending.
