Two juveniles in custody, third suspect involved in Wilmington break-in case

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two juveniles have been taken into custody and are facing charges following a break-in at a vacant Wilmington home, while police say a third suspect is also involved in the case.

The Wilmington Police Department says the two suspects in custody are juveniles, so their names will not be released.

Charges in the case include possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a stolen firearm and second-degree burglary.

Police confirmed there is a third suspect but did not provide additional information about that person or whether they have been taken into custody.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

The arrests follow a police response Thursday night at a vacant home on South 13th Street.

According to Wilmington Police, officers initially found two 16-year-old juveniles inside the home. One fled the area, prompting officers to search the surrounding neighborhood.

Officers blocked access in the area as they searched for the suspects. Nearby residents told WWAY they were instructed to remain inside their homes while officers conducted the search, which included K-9 units.

Police later took two juvenile suspects into custody.

Wilmington Police have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the firearm charges or whether additional suspects are still being sought.
