Two more area RadioShack locations slated to close
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two more area RadioShack locations are slated to close after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week.
Employees confirm the locations at Wilmington’s Independence Mall and Jacksonville Mall are closing soon. The locations are among hundreds listed on RadioShack’s corporate website as potentially closing. The RadioShack at University Centre on South College Road in Wilmington closed last week.
RadioShack stores in Monkey Junction and on Market Street in Wilmington and at Western Plaza in Jacksonville area not on the closure list.
Thursday RadioShack announced it was filing for Chapter 11 and that General Wireless, Inc., had agreed to purchase between 1,500 and 2,400 company-owned stores in the US. Overall RadioShack has 4,000 company-owned stores across the country. Its more than 1,000 dealer franchise stores in 25 countries, the stores operated by its Mexican
subsidiary, and its Asia operations are not included in the Chapter 11 filing or the agreements announced.
