Two men charged with reentering the US illegally found in New Hanover Co.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two men found in New Hanover County have been indicted on illegal reentry charges, one of which could face up to 10 years in prison.

According to a US Department of Justice, a federal grand jury in Raleigh returned indictments Wednesday charging Juan Alvarez-Guiterrez, 39, of Mexico, and Marcio Santos-Portillo, 44, of Honduras, with illegal reentry of a deported alien.

Alvarez-Gutierrez was found in New Hanover County and if convicted would face two years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

Santos-Portillo who was also found in New Hanover County, is alleged to have been previously deported due to a felony conviction. If convicted, he would face ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

The cases are being investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations.
