Two-year-old, teen shot to death in Halifax County

WELDON, NC (AP) — Authorities in Halifax County say a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed just hours before a 2-year-old girl was killed when shots were fired into her home.

Police told local media outlets that officers were called at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after someone reported shots being fired into a house. Police Chief Mark Macon says a 54-year-old woman inside the home was also injured and was in critical condition at a local hospital.

Hours before the girl’s death, Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said a 15-year-old boy was walking with several others Monday night when several people stepped out of some woods and began shooting. Two others were shot, but were treated at a local hospital and released.

Tripp said the shootings appear to be related, but he didn’t elaborate.
