Two Brunswick County deputies cleared in shooting

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The two Brunswick County deputies under investigation for shooting a Leland man last month have been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Investigators say George Cooper pointed a shotgun at the deputies as they tried to answer a domestic disturbance call at his trailer off Maco Road.

The SBI completed its investigation into the shooting last week after turning its findings over to District Attorney Rex Gore. He decided the officers would not face charges.

Gore has not decided whether cooper will face charges.
