Two local students honored for PSAT scores
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Two North Brunswick High students are being honored for their impressive PSAT scores.
Seniors La’shonya Bellamy and Erica Lee placed in the nation’s top five percent of the 140,000 African-Americans who applied for the national achievement program.
The program was established in 1964 to recognize outstanding African-American students. Both girls were humbled by their accomplishment.
Bellamy said, “It just caught me off-guard because I wasn’t expecting it, and my teachers came up and told me, and I was like ‘What?’ And they were like, yeah, you scored in the top five percent. And I was pretty excited because it’s an honor.”
Lee said, “I guess I was a little excited. I didn’t know anything about it and they were like, ‘Erica, congratulations!’ So it was a little surprising. I feel a little special.”
Both girls say they want to go to college in North Carolina. Their top choices are UNC-Chapel Hill and East Carolina University.
