U.S. Marshals arrest fugitive in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man wanted for attempted second degree murder in Louisiana was arrested in Brunswick County this afternoon.

According to a Spokesperson with the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26-year-old Nahshon Ishmael Brooks in Shallotte. Officials say Brooks is wanted by the Abbeville, LA Police Department for attempted second degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying a firearm in a fire-arm free zone.

Officials say Brooks was found at a Country Club Drive residence while they were serving an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Jaquin Kymane Bethea, Jr.. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety wanted Bethea for probation violations for the original offense of possession of a weapon.

Both Bethea and Brooks were booked in the Brunswick County Jail. Brooks was booked as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Louisiana.
