Uber now authorized at Wilmington International Airport

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – You now have another option when it comes to finding a ride to and from Wilmington International Airport.

According to a news release, Uber now has a staging lot on airport property to wait for rider requests.

Under the agreement with the airport, Uber drivers are authorized to operate at ILM, and will display the U-signs on the outside of their vehicles.

Uber says it worked with airport officials and customized the Uber app to minimize congestion at the airport.

Airport Deputy Director, Gary Broughton, says Uber had been operating without a contract agreement, but now they have a one-year contract with the company. The airport is providing 5 parking spaces for Uber.

When Uber drivers enter the airport, they’re placed in an electronic queue via the app, and can wait for requests in the designated staging lot. Requests are sent to the driver who arrived first, so there is no need to block traffic at the terminal.
