UNC officials among finalists named for SC State President
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) – Officials from two schools in the UNC system are among the five finalists to become the new president at South Carolina State University.
The two nominees are Johnson Akinleye, associate vice chancellor for academic programs at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
The other is Juliette Bell, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Fayetteville State University.
University officials say 42 people applied to replace Andrew Hugine, who was fired in December.
The five finalists will visit the university and meet with students, faculty and alumni before a new president is chosen.
Also among the finalists are a deputy administrator at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the vice president for planning at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
