UNC professor to win Nobel Prize in medicine
CHAPEL HILL — A UNC Chapel Hill professor is one of three people to win the Nobel Prize in medicine.
Oliver Smithies, 82, was recognized for developing a technology for manipulating genes in mice to help study diseases like diabetes and cancer.
He’ll head to Stockholm, Sweden in December for a formal ceremony where he will claim his medal and $1.5 million in prize money that he will split with two co-workers.
