UNCW gets OK for graduate degree in filmmaking

The UNC System Board of Governors has approved the university’s proposal to develop a graduate degree in filmmaking, granting the film studies department permission to seek resources and necessary facilities for the program over the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year.

“This is a great way for a program like ours to continue to evolve and bring in a more-select group of talented, motivated, more-mature students,” said Dave Monahan, chair of the UNCW film studies department. “Filmmaking is changing so rapidly. How people make movies, how people consume them and how movies fit into our culture. We want to be part of creating that in North Carolina.”
