UNCW hosts geologists meeting
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW is hosting the southeastern section of the Geological Society of America annual meeting at the Wilmington Convention Center. It was a nice day, so earth scientists headed outside to enjoy some hospitality.
The keynote speaker was William Ross, the former Secretary of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources, but he was not the only presenter.
“The conference is going great,” presenter Robby Morrow said. “Just finished up a presentation today; finished my publication. It’s pretty complex. It’s on crystal morphology with changes in temperatures in volcanic rocks. We are looking into a lot of natural disasters. The earthquake in Japan is certainly a big one. We are going to have to take a lot more steps to be prepared to deal with crisis like that.”
Geology is an earth science that covers earthquakes, volcanoes, erosion and a lot more. You might say geology rocks.
The meetings wrap up Friday.
