UNCW memorial set to honor Chapel Hill shooting victims

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Students at UNCW are honoring the lives of the three victims of last week’s murder near UNC’s campus in Chapel Hill.

Police say newlywed couple Deah Barakat, 23, and his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, 20, along with her sister Razan Abu-Salha, 19, were shot and killed by Craig Hicks February 10. Hicks was the neighbor of the couple and police say the possible motive is a parking dispute in the apartment complex. Hicks is indicted by a Durham County grand jury on three charges of first degree murder this week.

Tonight’s event honoring the victims will be held at the Burney Center on campus at 7:00 p.m. It’s open to the public. In the description for the event, organziers say they want to remember their legacy of peace, service and caring.
