UNCW men’s soccer team to host CAA Tournament game on Saturday

ELON, NC (UNCWSPORTS.COM) — UNCW and Elon proved why they are the top two defensive units in the Colonial Athletic Association as the teams played to a scoreless draw in the regular season finale for both teams at Rudd Field on Tuesday evening.

The draw allowed the Seahawks to secure a berth in the CAA Championship field while improving to 8-5-3 overall and 3-2-3 in the CAA. Meanwhile, Elon sealed up the fourth seed with the tie while moving to 7-5-4 on the season with an identical 3-2-3 mark in league play.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Cretens earned his sixth shutout of the season after making one save as UNCW limited Elon to just seven shots, including one attempt in the first half.

Elon redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Jegier tallied two saves to post his seventh clean sheet of the year.

Up Next for UNCW: The Seahawks, who earned the No. 3 seed in the six-team CAA Tournament field, begin their quest at a CAA title on Saturday, Nov. 5, against sixth-seeded College of Charleston at UNCW Soccer Stadium. Game time and ticket information will be announced on Wednesday morning.
