UNCW students discuss importance of voting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As many candidates make their final campaign stops in North Carolina, students at UNCW are making sure their voices are heard by heading to the polls.

This year’s election will be one for the books, that is why some students like Andrea Jones voted early.

“I think right now our generation is kind of overlooked,” Jones said. “A lot of people think that we are you know like stuck in technology. And ya know ignorant about what’s going on but I think it’s important to vote to show that we really do care and we have a voice.”

First time voter Lindsay Baker says she is  disappointed in the candidate selection.

“I don’t know they’re not really what I’d have in mind for my first time voting because it’s not like an easy decision,” Baker said.

But no matter who you are voting for, the fact that you vote is what is really important, especially for millennials.

“It’s our future that’s going to be impacted the most,” freshman, Natalie Rauch said. “I mean we have the most time here left on earth, and so the policies that are enacted in this presidency are going to effect us for the rest of our lives.”

When asked if the students are ready to hear the results of this year’s election, Junior Jourdan Nichol says he still cannot believe Election Day is finally here.

“I mean I guess it hasn’t hit me yet, I mean it probably will like everyone else later tomorrow night when we figure it out,” Nichol said. “But yeah, I don’t know it’s kind of scary but it’s all good. I mean it’s America that’s what we’re here for, to vote.”
