UNCW students respond to Ferguson decision
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW students got together to watch the grand jury’s decision on whether to indict Officer Darren Wilson.
Inside the Upperman African American Cultural Center on campus students expressed their frustration and their disappointment with the decision not to indict Officer Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.
Students saying they didn’t call this justice, this was not justice as they saw it.
“Well I was hoping that he would be indicted but at the same time I was not surprised,” said Connor Smith, “We have seen situations where people have gotten away with murder.”
“I think the fact that there was no indictment at all was sort of ridiculous,” said Derek Detweiler, “I think he should have at least been charged with something so he could go through the whole process of the court.
A diverse group of students inside the African-American Cultural Center, outside though people didn’t seem to be paying very close attention to the decision on the campus of UNCW at least.
The ones who were paying attention though, say they will continue to follow whatever comes next in this incident.
