2 former, 2 current UNCW golfers move forward in Wells Fargo Championship qualifying

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A quartet of golfers with UNCW ties are a step closer to playing in the PGA Tour event in Wilmington next week.

Former UNCW golfer Thomas Bass led the field at today’s Wells Fargo Championship pre-qualifying event held at the Country Club of Landfall with a 7-under 65 on the Nicklaus Course. He will be one of at least 25 golfers to advance to Monday’s qualifying round at Landfall.

Current UNCW golfers Reese McFarlane (-6) and Thomas Eldridge (-2) and former Seahawk Trey Guy (-3) were also among the 13 golfers to advance to Monday. The others will come from a pre-qualifying event today in Gaston County.

The top four finishers Monday will qualify for the field for the Wells Fargo Championship, which starts Thursday, May 4, at Eagle Point Golf Club.
