UNCW breaks ground on new psych building
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW broke ground Thursday on a new building. The new psychology building will be the second part of four building health education center in the middle of campus. The building will more than double the amount of lab space for students and allow the university to develop a doctoral program.
Trustees and faculty say the building will help fill a need by providing more psychology professionals in North Carolina.
“There is very much an unfulfilled need in regard to mental health professionals and the services that students that come from our psychological sciences program will provide” said Dr. Terry Coffee, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Psychology is one of the most popular majors at UNCW with more than 600 students. The building is scheduled to open for the 2012 school year.
