UNCW brings in record donations

UNCW has hit an all-time record for donations to the school in a single fiscal year.

More than $13.8 million.

The money will help fund scholarships, fellowships, various programs, and a new building for student athletes.

Vice chancellor for University Advancement Mary Gornto says donations are more important than ever because the percentage of money received from the state is declining.

In the 2006-2007 fiscal year, just 40 percent of the university’s total revenue came from the state.

“It’s just very exciting, very gratifying, and very encouraging that even in difficult times, our friends and supporters come with their gifts to the university,” said Gornto.

The money came from alumni, businesses, foundations, and other donors.

UNCW received several million-dollar donations.
