UNCW diver dies in Florida

A diver for UNCW’s undersea research facility in Florida has died.

36-year-old Dewey Smith was diving with two other aquanauts near the Aquarius Reef Base off Key Largo.

He told them through hand signals that he was returning to the base.

Shortly after, the divers found Smith unconscious.

His cause of death has not yet been determined.
