UNCW, Landfall to host NCAA golf tourney
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In one week, the top collegiate women golfers in the land will compete for a national championship here in Wilmington.
The Country Club of Landfall hosted a preview luncheon for the NCAA championships this afternoon. UNCW will host the four-day tournament at Landfall’s Dye Course.
After the hiring of a couple of big name basketball coaches, it’s another way for UNCW sports to get some national recognition.
“I just think it’s really good just for our entire community, and that’s what it’s about,” Athletic Director Kelly Mehrtens. “I mean, working together as an institution, as a city and especially here with the country club, when we’re talking about golf, is just really important for all of us, I think. And so that’s what makes me excited.”
The tournament features 24 teams from around the country and more than 150 golfers. Click here for more information, including the schedule and how to get tickets.
