UNCW Marine Science gets a boost from NOAA
UNCW’s Marine Science program is growing. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, is putting up $22 million to fund research, and a brand new research center in Florida. The center will be a joint effort between UNC-Wilmington and Florida Atlantic University.
Daniel Baden, the Director of the UNCW Center for Marine Science, said the center’s mission is “Notion to Ccean”. “It’s actually having the notion and taking it to the ocean,” he said. “Having an idea of what is possible, designing the high technology equipment, executing the research NOAA can actually use it for their work.”
UNCW will likely see $11 million dollars over the course of the five years.
