UNCW reopens University Union

WILMINGOTN — After being closed for nearly two years UNCW has re-opened the doors to a newly renovated University Union.

University leaders cut the ribbon at the entrance of the University Union and Burney Center.

Also part of today’s celebration was a big donation from alumni Herbert and Sylvia Fisher. The Fishers presented UNCW a check for $1 million.

Fisher said, “These two buildings really touched our hearts, the new building and this building, and they revolve around student activities and that was really important to us.”

The University Union will be named after the Fisher family. It’s right next door to the Fisher Student Center, also named after them.

The newly reopened University Union features a grand ballroom, banquet rooms and office space.
