UNCW students help “Stop Hunger Now”
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — 107,000 mouths will be fed because 500 UNCW students volunteered their time on Saturday.
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization founded by Ray Buchanan, UNCW alum. Students spent Saturday packing bags full of rice, dried vegetables, soy, and vitamin packets to send to Haiti.
“It’s overwhelming to see how many students actually care about what’s going on in the world right now, and I’m glad to be a part of it,” said UNCW student Nishtha Sharma.
Students listened to upbeat music and worked quickly to fill over 80,000 bags to send to Haiti. Haiti had not fully recovered from the earthquake that struck in January, and then Tomas brought severe storms to the country only increasing the need for aid.
