UNCW’s new LGBT coordinator talks student support
WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — For Brooke Lambert, being hired as the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s LGBTQIA coordinator meant trading the rocky peaks of Utah for Wilmington’s sandy beaches.
“We’ll put up the snowshoes and get a paddle board or something,” she said Wednesday in the Fisher Student Center.
Politically, the differences between Utah and North Carolina are not so stark — at least on LGBT issues. But since starting at UNCW’s LGBTQIA Resource Office Aug. 1 — making her the office’s first permanent leader since former coordinator Amy Schlag abruptly resigned in spring 2015 — Lambert has been flooded with support.
