Unemployment rate remains the same
The jobless rate in North Carolina is not getting any better, but it is not getting any worse, either.
Unemployment has been relatively flat for the past few months, at 10.8 percent. Nearly 493,000 North Carolinians were out of work in April. The State Employment Security Commission said about 800 more people re-joined the work force between March and April, but that was not enough to change the unemployment rate.
A year ago, the jobless rate in our state was just 5.7 percent.
