University of North Carolina officials approve $3 billion budget plan
University of North Carolina officials have unanimously approved a $3 billion budget plan that seeks a $168 million spending increase.
On Friday, Board of Governors approved the plan. The majority of the money would go toward salaries, financial aid and public safety at the system’s 16 universities.
Chancellors at the system’s campuses have cut current budgets by 4 percent. The board decided not to raise tuition last year, but UNC President, Erskine Bowles, said he expects campuses will ask for an increase now.
