UPDATE: Arrests made in early-morning shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating after they say a shooting victim showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds not long after officers got reports of shots fired.

Dispatchers say they first got calls about shots fired in the area of the 200 block of S. 11th Street just before 4 a.m. Thursday. That’s where police were searching the scene when they say Laquinn Hines, 28, was dropped of at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds by private vehicle.

This afternoon, WPD announced two arrests in connection with the incident. Police say Stan Ballard, 45, is facing charges including drug charges and three counts of misdemeanor child abuse. He is being held at the New Hanover County Jail under a $25,000 bond.

Police say Mara Simon, 33, is also facing charges of larceny of a motor vehicle.

Police say when officers entered the home to look for additional victims, they found about 50 people inside, as well as three children all under the age of 13. Police say the house was being used as an illegal bar.

Police say Hines is stable at NHRMC.
