UPDATE: Driver cited after running red light, hitting ambulance
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say a driver was cited after she ran a red light, sending her car into an ambulance early Monday.
It happened at 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of Dawson and 3rd Streets, where officers say the ambulance had just come off of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge ramp.
Police say a Honda car was on 3rd Street when the driver ran a red light at the intersection, and then hit the ambulance going through it. They say the ambulance belongs to the Leland Fire Department.
Officers say the driver of the Honda, Kristen Rhodes, 21, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, but is expected to be OK. Wilmington Police, EMS and fire crews all responded to the scene.
WPD officers say Rhodes was cited for running the red light.
